MOISTURE TESTING

At First Floors Commercial we believe that moisture testing of a concrete substrate is a crucial step in ensuring the quality and durability of flooring installations.  The objective of moisture testing is to prevent issues such as flooring failures, adhesive breakdown, or mold growth, which can result from excessive moisture levels in the concrete slab. 

 In Australia the standard for moisture testing is AS1884-2012. This standard provides guidelines and procedures for assessing the moisture content within concrete slabs prior to the installation of floor coverings.   

In compliance with AS1884-2012 First Floors Commercial uses the Relative Humidity (RH) test following ASTM F2170 guidelines. This test assesses different aspects of moisture presence and movement within the slab, allowing for an accurate determination of the slab's readiness for flooring installation. By adhering to this standard, the risk of moisture-related problems can be significantly reduced, ensuring the long-term performance and integrity of the installed flooring systems.

ASTM F2170 provides the guidelines and procedures specifically for in-situ relative humidity (RH) testing of concrete slabs.  Specialized RH probes are inserted into pre-drilled holes in the concrete slab to measure the moisture content within the slab. 

By following the guidelines set forth in ASTM F2170, First Floors Commercial is able to obtain accurate and reliable RH measurements.
